Learning to Walk
NEW MEXICO'S ANEMIC FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE REGIMENT There is a venerable proverb that you have to learn to walk before you learn to run. Ethics reformers in New Mexico would do well to heed that proverb, for while much of the energy in the state is focused on the possibility and parameters of a state ethics commission, there are a plethora of basic steps to policing the ethics of state officials that New Mexico has not yet taken. Chief among these are the personal financial disclosures required from elected and appointed state officials. |
